How Much Noise Do Magnetic Generators Make?

Published: December 3, 2025  |  Updated: May 22, 2026

One thing to consider when building your own magnetic generator is just how much noise it will make. Many people who are thinking of making their own generator are concerned about this.

Will it keep the kids awake? Will it disturb the neighbours? These are all real concerns. So in this article, we’ll find out just how much noise does a free energy generator make.

The first thing to understand is that there isn’t just one straightforward answer to this question. The reason for this is that there are different variations and different sizes of the Tesla magnetic generator that you can build.

A Bigger Tesla Generator Means More Noise

If you are thinking of building a magnetic generator to power your whole house, the noise output will be significantly more than a smaller-scale generator.

The good news is though, whatever the size, the noise output is actually pretty low. The sound produced by a Tesla magnetic generator is often far less than that of a regular solar power inverter.

The size of the generator is the main thing that determines how loud it is. There are, however, some things that can reduce the noise output.

This is one of the best parts about building a Tesla generator. You get to customize it and make it your own design. The Tesla magnetic generator plans show you how to build a standard generator but there are many things you can do to enhance the design to your own needs.

How to Run Your Magnetic Generator Silently

I’ve built several generators over the last few years. Here are just a few things that I’ve done to make my magnetic generators virtually silent.

Use noise-dampening foam on the support mounts. I’ve found this reduces any vibrations and reduces noise.

Build a soundproof housing. This can be as simple as a plywood box lined with noise-dampening foam. I actually did a budget build once and used egg boxes on the inside of the plywood. It turned out pretty good!

Spend more time balancing the wheel. I found this to be really important. Take my advice and spend more time here because if it’s aligned properly, it greatly reduces the sound output.

Get some decent grease on the axels. This not only reduces noise but can also increase the power output of your magnetic generator.

How Quiet Is a Magnetic Generator Compared to Other Generators?

A typical magnetic generator runs at around 30 to 40 decibels, which is quieter than a normal conversation. For comparison, a standard gas generator runs at about 70 decibels, which is as loud as a vacuum cleaner. The Tesla magnetic generator is significantly quieter because it has fewer moving parts and no combustion engine.

Most people cannot even hear their Tesla magnet motor running from the next room. If you place it in a shed or garage, the sound is barely noticeable. This makes it ideal for homeowners who live close to their neighbors or who want a generator that does not disrupt their daily life.

You can further reduce noise by placing the generator in a simple wooden enclosure or a garden shed. The whole house magnetic generator setup typically sits outside and is barely audible from inside the house.

I was worried about noise before I built mine. I live in a suburban neighborhood and did not want to disturb the neighbours. But the article is right, even a big generator is quieter than a solar inverter. I built a soundproof box out of plywood and lined it with foam. It is so quiet now I can barely hear it running. The plans in the article show you exactly how to do it.

You said you built a plywood box lined with foam. Does that mean the generator makes noise without it? How loud is it raw?

Patrick, a properly balanced generator is already pretty quiet. The noise mostly comes from vibration if the wheel is not aligned right. I spent extra time balancing mine and it made a huge difference. The article mentions several tips: noise dampening foam on the mounts, balancing the wheel carefully, and putting decent grease on the axles. I also used egg boxes on one build and they worked surprisingly well. My current one is in a plywood box with foam and you cannot hear it from the next room.

I kept waiting to see if this was worth it. The video in the article convinced me and I ordered the plans last week.

Been an electrician for 33 years. Here is a tip: put some quality grease on the axles. It reduces noise and can actually increase the power output. I tested it with a meter on my second build. The difference was noticeable. Also do not skip the balancing step. Spend extra time on it and your generator will run smoother and quieter.
