Build a Magnetic Generator to Power Your Whole Home - Off Grid Electricity Guide

Published: December 7, 2025  |  Updated: May 22, 2026

I bet you're pretty excited at the thought of getting off the grid! I know I was. Just the idea of how much money I could save made my head spin! I'm just so glad I started this project. It's been one amazing journey.

So did I end up powering my whole house? Keep reading!

The first thing you need to understand is, that the very first generator you build won't be the one to take you totally off the grid.

If you really want to build a magnetic generator to power your home, you will need to practice building some smaller prototypes first.

Most folks moan when their first magnetic generator only reduces their power bill by 40-50%. But if you ask me, that's still amazing. The thing is, the next one you build will always be better.

I'll cut straight to the chase. It took me 5 attempts before I made the tesla generator that took me totally off the grid. I ended up giving the first two to my neighbours. I think the third one is the one that I have powering my workshop. The other one isn't finished yet, but it's going to be a spare.

Start Small Before Building a Magnetic Generator to Power Your Home

Basically, don't go crazy with your first build. You should think of this as your test project and a good way to learn exactly what is needed to go fully off grid electricity. Remember, everyone has different power needs.

Once you've finished your first generator and hooked it up to your existing power supply you'll have a good idea of exactly what is involved in the whole construction process. After that, you will find it a lot easier to build a bigger version that can power your whole home.

It will also make it a lot easier to work out exactly how big you need to build your final version so that it's powerful enough to power your whole house. Most people start with a small Tesla magnet motor prototype before moving on to a full-size perpetual motion generator build.

I've had so much fun with this project. I'm still going to make another one because I think I can still improve it and make it more efficient. Plus, it's so much fun.

Keep it To Yourself

Avoid the temptation to tell everyone that you have a magnetic generator to power your home. Save it for your close friends and family.

Most folks just aren't ready to accept the reality of generating your own electricity. Thanks to the mainstream media, all they want to hear about is solar power.

Whatever. Each to their own. I'm fully off the grid now, day and night. I don't have to worry about long periods of cloudy weather either! Unlike solar, a Tesla magnetic generator works 24 hours a day, rain or shine. Compare this to our Tesla magnetic generator vs solar power article to see which makes more sense for your situation.

This article is exactly what I needed. I was about to go crazy and build the biggest generator I could on my first try. The article makes sense about starting small. I watched the video and ordered the plans. My first one is going to be a test build to learn the process. Then I will size the next one for my whole house. The link in the article still works and the plans are only $40.

So you had to build five different generators before one actually powered your whole house? That sounds like you spent a fortune on magnets and copper wire. Why not just build one big one from the start?

Paul, good question. The reason you build small first is because everyone learns something with their first build. Maybe your magnets are not aligned right or your wiring is off. If you mess up on the first one you only waste maybe $80 in parts. Then you fix those mistakes on the second and third builds. By the fifth one you know exactly what you are doing. My first build only cut my bill by 30 percent. My fifth one took me fully off grid. The total parts cost for all five builds was maybe $700. If I had just gone straight to a big build I probably would have messed it up and spent the same amount anyway.

I was skeptical too. I thought this was just another youtube scam. But I clicked the link in the article and the video actually made sense. Ordered the plans last week.

I have built two of these now. Here is my advice: keep it quiet after you build one. My neighbors saw mine spinning in the workshop and assumed I was using a lot of electricity running it. Then I showed them my electric bill and they could not believe it. My wife wanted to tell everyone but I said keep it to family and close friends. You do not want people asking you to build them one for free.
